Job Title: Senior Health & Safety Advisor – Tunnelling Project

  • Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM
  • Contract Length: Contract around 3 months – potentially extended
  • Location: On-site based at Long Itchington Wood Tunnel
  • Rate of Pay: Day rate DOE (Inside IR35)

Brand new opportunity to work on a ground breaking high-speed rail project!

Role Overview:

This role is a temporary position covering the responsibilities of the existing HSE Advisor, who is transitioning to a different part of the project. The successful candidate will join the Long Itchington Wood Tunnel team, a key construction element of the client’s project. This tunnel is 1 mile long and involves both sprayed concrete lining (SCL) and secondary concrete lining. The project also includes cross passages and three internal caves primarily designed for emergency evacuations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure all health & safety measures are in place and adhered to during the construction of the tunnel, with a particular focus on tunnelling and concrete lining processes.
  • Conduct regular site inspections to assess compliance with health & safety standards.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of health & safety documentation including risk assessments and method statements.
  • Liaise with project managers, construction teams, and other stakeholders to promote a culture of safety.
  • Monitor and manage health & safety compliance, providing guidance and recommendations to the on-site team.
  • Report and investigate any health & safety incidents and near misses, ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

Requirements:

  • Relevant qualifications in Health & Safety (NEBOSH/IOSH or equivalent).
  • Previous experience working on large infrastructure or tunnelling projects.
  • Strong knowledge of health & safety regulations within the construction industry, particularly in tunnelling environments.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger project team.
  • Excellent communication skills for collaborating with diverse stakeholders.
