Key Responsibilities:

• Primary Care Nursing: Provide essential nursing care to the prison population, focusing on physical health and overall well-being.
• Health Screening & Assessments: Carry out comprehensive health assessments and routine screenings to meet the varied healthcare needs of inmates.
• Chronic Disease Management: Manage and care for long-term conditions such as diabetes, asthma, and hypertension within a custodial setting.
• Medication Administration & Management: Administer and manage prescribed medication safely, ensuring adherence to healthcare protocols within the prison.
• Health Promotion: Deliver engaging health education initiatives to encourage healthier lifestyle choices among inmates.
• Emergency Response: Act as a first responder to medical emergencies, coordinating necessary care and overseeing hospital transfers as required.
• Record Keeping & Documentation: Maintain secure, accurate, and up-to-date patient records in compliance with prison healthcare standards.
• Safeguarding: Identify and report safeguarding concerns, ensuring the protection of vulnerable inmates.
• Collaboration: Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, providing holistic care to inmates.
• Mental Health Support: Offer support for mental health issues, ensuring appropriate care and interventions are provided.
• Compliance: Adhere to healthcare policies and procedures, ensuring high standards of care are maintained within the prison environment.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Registered Nurse (Adult) with valid NMC registration.
• Prison Cleared: Must be cleared to work within a prison setting and undergo relevant security checks.
• Minimum of 2 years' experience in primary care nursing, ideally within secure or custodial settings.
• Experience in Chronic Disease Management and general healthcare delivery.
• Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to interact effectively with inmates, prison staff, and multidisciplinary healthcare teams.
• Ability to Work Under Pressure: Capable of managing a busy workload and making sound clinical decisions in challenging environments.
