Job Title: Home Moves Plus Officer
Location: Taunton, Somerset
Contract Type: Temporary (around 3 months)
Rate: £23 per hour
Working Hours: Standard office hours, with occasional evening and weekend work as needed
Role Overview
Somerset Council is looking for a proactive and experienced Home Moves Plus Officer to help tackle under-occupation in its social housing stock. This role is vital in maximising the availability of housing by assisting tenants in downsizing, ultimately freeing up homes for those in greater need.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the Lettings Team, your duties will include:
- Identifying and assisting council tenants who are under-occupying their homes to relocate to more suitable accommodation
- Reducing housing waiting lists by increasing the availability of appropriately sized homes
- Helping overcrowded households find suitable housing alternatives
- Promoting and enhancing the use of Homeswapper, Somerset Council’s mutual exchange system
- Contributing to the management of new tenant placements into social housing
- Assisting in reducing the reliance on temporary accommodation and lowering associated costs
- Developing and implementing incentives to encourage tenants to relocate, helping to create sustainable communities
Who We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate will have:
- A strong understanding of housing tenant demographics, local community dynamics, and broader regional factors (such as the impact of Hinkley Point on lettings and homelessness)
- Extensive knowledge of housing management policies, tenancy law, and best practices in neighbourhood and tenancy management
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and housing management applications, including Open Housing System, Homefinder Somerset, Choice-Based Lettings system, and the Home Swapper Mutual Exchange System
